Branch (computer)

There should be a page on cvs/svn branches. --Jcmaco 10:02, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It does seem this information is missing or not easily found, so please write it if you can. I would suggest though that a new section be added to the Revision control article first as appropriate, unless you have enough information on branches to warrant a separate article. If you do create an article though, you may want to pick a more specialized parenthetical qualifier (other than computer), as the term branch also has other meanings in computing. Then feel free to add a link to the section (or article) on the disambiguation page, Branch (disambiguation). -- Dmeranda 05:36, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just saw the article Branching (software) which seems to cover this topic. There needs to be cross redirects between noun forms (branch) and verb forms (branching) in several topics. Perhaps this should be done along with a cleanup of the disambiguation page? -- Dmeranda 07:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merger with disambiguation page

Except for the initial description of the literal tree branch, most of this article is effectively a disambiguation list. There already exists a separate disambiguation page though, Branch (disambiguation), which would be a more appropriate place to list these; following Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). -- Dmeranda 05:28, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and did the merge. All content that was on this page (except for in the sense of a tree branch) is now on the Branch (disambiguation) page. -- Dmeranda 17:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User perspective

If I'm looking for 'Branch' as a naive user, how am I ever going to look for 'disambiguation'? Surely all the alternatives should be there to be selected? UrbanRambler 08:52, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed gallery

Images

I've removed the following gallery section from the article, as it doesn't seem to add anything of value. See WP:Galleries. Feel free to add images that illustrate principles mentioned in the text, such as the different kinds of branches. Melchoir (talk) 03:52, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All those synonyms...

It is a bit odd to me that the page about "branch" is mostly a discussion of very obscure words for branches. It doesn't tell us much about what a branch is, and what properties it has. Equinox 22:44, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It would also be good to explain the difference between "surculus" and "ramulus". Equinox 04:59, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nonvascular

Someone reminded me that this article covers only woody types of branches. I don't think redirecting moss branch to moss would be sensible so I think this article should cover all types not just woody vascular. Invasive Spices (talk) 14 December 2022 (UTC)
