Talk:Biomimetic synthesis

The opening sentence is being returned to the original general statement...

...because the specifics of the replacement make it incorrect, actually. To say the following (this was edit removed):

Biomimetic synthesis is the chemical synthesis of an organic compound that mimics a natural biosynthetic pathway...

is to focus on one of the two parts of its definition, exclusively. The article subject refers both to syntheses that mimic known steps/pathways, and the testing of conjectured (unknown) transformations and mechanisms through synthetic organic chemistry. These are both included in the second sentence.

As well, the change only speaks of pathways (multiple steps), when a biomimetic synthesis of either the "known" or "unknown" type may actually focus on a single step (single enzymic transformation).

Bottom line, the change makes the article open with a statement that both contradicts its second sentence, and that is fundamentally incorrect (in being only partly true). OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE THOUGHT ALREADY GIVEN, TIME ALREADY SPENT, AND PERSON WRITING THE ORIGINAL, PLEASE DISCUSS HERE BEFORE CHANGING AGAIN !

Finally, the fact that biomimetic syntheses involve synthesis of organic compounds, and implicitly, of natural products, is now captured via a link built into the word organic, appearing before chemical synthesis.
