  • Beck may also refer to the Beck Foundation, which itself may refer either to the John and Frances Beck Foundation, sponsors of Wikijunior or to AH Beck Foundation Co. Inc., a construction company. - J Alexander D Atkins 18:27, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: not moved per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC criteria mentioned in the !votes. -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:31, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ASTONISH. There is no clear primary topic by PT#1, Beck (manga) and Beck (TV series) alone get nearly 1 sixth of the views of the singer, Jeff Beck, Beck Bennett and Beck Weathers combined get more views than the singer although they probably aren't known mainly as just "Beck". By PT#2 Beck (stream) would probably be primary. There are also a large number of other uses on the DAB. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:20, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. A large number of other uses does not preclude there being a primary topic, and in terms of usage for things actually named "Beck" (as opposed to partial title matches) the pageview stats strongly favour the mononymously known musical artist. I suspect there's a fine line between WP:ASTONISH and WP:NWFCTM. PC78 (talk) 21:26, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The ASTONISH reference was to the stream meaning, that is to say that that's what "beck" commonly means. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:21, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, there are 2,847 mainspace links to Beck and 35 for Beck (stream) (per backlinkscount.py). Colin M (talk) 22:17, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Beck the musical artist has sort of faded from mainstream. It would be fairer to all other topics related to "Beck" that the artist be sent to disambiguation and moving the disambiguation to the primary topic. --Masem (t) 21:56, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • I will further add that because we have a significant number of Beck (surname) people, that "Beck" readily cannot be considered primary to the musical artist. --Masem (t) 16:15, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • Unless any of those people are commonly known as just "Beck" I don't see how that is relevant. PC78 (talk) 20:36, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
        • If you were searching for someone with a surname of Beck, unaware of there being a not-quite-obscure-but-not-household-name musician named Beck, your search would be made more difficult and would require three clicks to get to an appropriate page. (musician -> general disamb -> surname disamb). --Masem (t) 15:10, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
          • So? This does not preclude there being a primary topic for "Beck". PC78 (talk) 16:00, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support it's just one of those cases where an entertainment subject is not really of long lasting encyclopaedic significance. WP:NOPRIMARY In ictu oculi (talk) 22:18, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Inclined to agree with PC78 here; this is the only topic called "Beck" that gets significant pageviews (it looks like 89% by my count, 82% recently). So I don't think this is astonishing. Nohomersryan (talk) 00:26, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination and Masem. The number of entries — of which the Beck (disambiguation) page has 35 — does indeed matter. The greater the number of entries, the higher the bar of notability for designating the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. It would take a true international superstar to top so many entries — not the case here. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 02:29, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Number of entries" and "true international superstar" are not specified as criteria at WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I'm not a fan of Beck nor am I particuarly familiar with his work, but his discography and awards spanning the past 30 years certainly suggest that he is artist of international significance. PC78 (talk) 20:54, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom and Masem - no clear primary topic. When in doubt, it's safest to disambiguate. Paintspot Infez (talk) 12:44, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, that is just a lazy option. Ceoil (talk) 19:10, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose WP:PRIMARYUSAGE specifies "much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term". The pageview stats linked by PC78 suggest that the singer clearly satisfies these criteria. Masem suggests he's "faded from mainstream", but even if you just look at stats from the last year, the singer has an ~85% share, with 14x as many views as the next most viewed article. Colin M (talk) 16:04, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Colin M, and pageviews. "faded from mainstream" is a particularly weak argument, as...relative to what? I thought RECENTISM was discouraged. Ceoil (talk) 22:47, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, too many uses of this four letter word to determine this singer as primary. Lazz_R 00:15, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, clear primary topic. The raw number of ambiguous topics is completely irrelevant. —Xezbeth (talk) 11:03, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, Paris (disambiguation) has ±90 entries, yet it is valid. © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 14:39, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Paris the city has been around for at least 800 years, and isn't likely going anywhere, and many of the uses of "Paris" fall out from the city's name. This case is completely different. --Masem (t) 15:08, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • Hold that thought Masem, and lets wait and see if Paris "fades from the mainstream". Ceoil (talk) 17:59, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment quite a few other projects have "Beck" as the DAB and the singer at Beck Hansen as well as Beck (singer) (the equivalent in the language) so any thoughts of moving to Beck Hansen? Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:55, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's an interesting observation, but I'd oppose a move to that name under WP:COMMONNAME grounds. I think most people familiar with the singer would not recognize his full name. Colin M (talk) 15:03, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Beck has much long-term significance, he is still famous in the 31st century... Just joking, but a lauded career of 30-years and no significant challengers view-wise makes the current primary topic OK in my view. For someone who has purportedly faded, he still gets a very solid amount of views... 3,000 a day? I would love to be that washed up. --Quiz shows 03:55, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. No clear primary topic here. If anything it's the stream. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:28, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Beck has been relevant for decades. Unreal7 (talk) 22:08, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
