Someone also needs to mention that Barrington also has a nickname of "Borington". This is because in Barrington, it is illegal to set up a liquor store there; thus most Barrington residents get their liquor from neighboring Warren or East Providence. -Daniel Blanchette 00:30, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, somebody can find a CITATION that mentions that and then maybe it can be added into the article. I know that references are fairly rare around here, but we should still try to find and use them. NO material should be added to this project without sources, imho. Thanks for the ssuggestion. For the record, I go to Haxtons in Riverside for my booze. Actually, haven't they changed their name? No matter, they still have an excellent selection of beers :)--Tom 13:51, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced material and commentary

I did a little spring cleaning today :). Cheers! --Tom 14:51, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tenn drinking

I removed this section as not really noteworthy for an encyclopedia article. --Tom 18:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timely, sourced, publicly reported material that led to changes in RI General Laws; may not be "noteworthy" for Barrington, RI residents, but valuable information for attorneys involved in this area of law--Law Dog 2000

Not really. Please add this material to a blog. Thanks, --Tom 13:53, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most Expensive Suburbs 2008 in BuisnessWeek

BusinessWeek named Barrington one of the 50 most expensive suburbs in 2008:

"Rhode Island Barrington

Median home price: $405,000 Cost of living index: 45% Nonretail spending index: 46% Transportation cost index: 39% Location: 9 miles southeast of Providence Population: 17,536

Barrington is home to a wealthy population of academics, professionals, and executives who commute from nearby Providence. At no point is the suburb more than two miles from salt water. It is bounded by East Providence to the north and west, by Massachusetts on the northeast, by the Warren River to the east, and by Narragansett Bay to the west and south."

Unsourced material and Clean-up

  1. First of all, i've lived in Barrington all my life (so-far) and i've never heard or seen the motto "Let us be happy! To joy we come!" be used. Is there a citation for this motto or is it made-up? I think it should be removed till cited.
  2. The history section is nice, but could be expanded and cleaned up quite a bit. There is a lot of information and photos at www.barrpreservation.org which could be used and cited for the wiki page; and i'm surprised no one has done this yet.
  3. Also, we have an awesome town seal/crest, does anyone have any information on it or pictures?
  4. No one has mentioned any history on rum smuggling and Barrington as well; if i had cited sources, i would put some information up, but i only know this history by word of mouth (if true at all).
  5. Plus, the education section could be expanded, to include more information on how Barrington schools, have been the top public schools in RI for a long time running. There have been many Projo articles on this, and could probably be found online and cited.
