Contradiction between the secondary source and the original source
In 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica, it says
"When the high priest of Jerusalem, Jesus, murdered his brother Johannes in the temple, Bagoas (who had supported Johannes) put a new tax on the Jews and entered the temple, saying that he was purer than the murderer who performed the priestly office (Joseph. Ant. xi. 7.1)"
In the original source, Antiquities of the Jews, it is,
"Now when Bagoses, the general of Artaxerxes's army, knew that John, the high priest of the Jews, had slain his own brother Jesus in the temple, he came upon the Jews immediately, and began in anger to say to them," Have you had the impudence to perpetrate a murder in your temple?" And as he was aiming to go into the temple, they forbade him so to do; but he said to them," Am not I purer than he that was slain in the temple?"

In any case, that episode concerns a different man than the one in this article, namely a Persian governor of Judaea who succeeeded Nehemiah sometime in the 410s BC. The accession of this governor marks the point where the main historical records of the Old Testament break off (he is not mentioned in the Bible even though he ruled Judaea) but in himself he has little claim to notability. 83.254.143.47 (talk) 19:49, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
