Honey Badger is not a true badger but a "Ratel"

Honey Badger is also known as a "Ratel" not a true badger.... Please refer to a Wikipedia article as "Honey Badger" and remove the sentence from the article, it has nothing to do with a true "badger." It's a mustelid, but is not related (only in name).

First of all, don't use Wikipedia pages as sources. Secondly, most language versions of this article exclude the American "badger" from their articles as well, while the Spanish one includes both the "American badger" and the "honey badger." Presumably most languages don't call American badgers or honey badgers "badgers," which Spanish, like English, does. This is an encyclopedia article, and the article is about the common English name. Reptile isn't a valid clade either, but we have an article on that. —Quintucket (talk) 04:45, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
As I understand it, the honey badger has sufficient differences to your archetypical badger Meles, to be given it's own subfamily Mellivorinae. The name "Ratel" and "Honey Badger" are both accepted as common names for this species. They are closely enough related to "badgers" to consider them as "badger-like" animals; therefore, worthy of inclusion in this article. --Connelly90[AlbaGuBràth] (talk) 15:27, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Did you know

That the sentence "Badger badger Badger badger badger badger Badger badger" is grammatically correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.233.92.82 (talk) 01:53, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

in the Ubisoft game Farcry4 (released also on the STEAM platform) - Badgers are one of many antagonistic mammals. Though small they are vicious and determined. Once killed a Badger can be 'skinned' and sold for Kyrat dollars. Rat cat (talk) 12:22, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Also, please be sure to cite a reliable source for any changes you would like made. Thanks, /wiae /tlk 13:15, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Badger. Please take a moment to review my edit. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Merge this with the 'European badger' article!

I was astonished to see just how few language versions there are of an article on such an important and well-known animal: nothing in German, Italian, Russian, Polish, Swedish, Norwegian, Arabic, Chinese.... the list is almost endless. But if you google the Swedish word for badger ('grävling') you're referred to an article on the 'European badger' - and there are literally dozens more language versions on this, which is essentially the same animal. in the interests of completeness, not only should the language lists for the two articles match, but the two articles should simply be merged. This is a constant problem on Wikipedia - two people submit articles on the same thing, but fail to link them up.188.230.248.85 (talk) 12:50, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

There is a formal process for proposing a merger - see WP:Merging. However, I feel certain this would not happen for a good reason. There are are several species of badger, of which the European badger is only one. This badger article is intended as a general article on all the species. As such, it can contain some of the content from the European badger article but this should not be too much. This is typical for animal articles on WP. Deutsch: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dachse should be added to the languages section. It even lkinks to this English article, and it is not the special "European badger" article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:C22:C018:4C00:D4FC:3643:D77E:E1AE (talk) 11:12, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
