Babydoll

Thank you for expanding this article I created. I hope to add images soon! Supercool Dude 05:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Babydolls became a prominent part of the "Kinderwhore" look during the early-to-mid 1990s due to the popularity of Riot Grrrl and Grunge music performers like Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland".

As neither Hole or Babes in Toyland were Riot Grrrl performers, I think either a Riot Grrrl act that did dress in Babydoll dresses should be specified or that the phrase Riot Grrrl should be omitted from that statement as it only has the capacity to reinforce misconceptions about Riot Grrrl and its relationship to "Kinderwhore".

Marabou

I think that Marabou should be cross-linked --- but to some article about the use of the term Marabou (fashion) in the fashion industries. Clearly the link to the type of stork would be a detraction from the usage here.

Some links that might help to create a "Marabou (fashion)" page:

Clearly the term has two different fashion oriented meanings --- it's a type of thrown silk and a reference to the down from the tail of the bird.

I don't have the time to write such an article at the moment ... but perhaps this page will inspire someone to do so (and to link to it from the page about the stork, referring to one of the commercial uses of this particular animal). JimD 01:30, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other uses in fashion

"Babydoll" is not necessarily a type of lingerie. It can be a type of silhouette for tops and dresses, along with the name of a style of dress popular in the 1970s. The bottom picture is not a babydoll in any sense. I'm not sure how to go about changing this article. Should there be different pages for each use, or should all of the different uses in fashion be on one page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Akari Mizunashi (talkcontribs) 00:46, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

definition

I disagree that the bottom picture is not a baby doll, at least in modern usage in the USA. Perhaps not wherever Akari is posting from. The picture does not have the classic bra top, but has the general shape, so I think most people would recognize it as such. The question might be how the industry refers to it. Speaking to a friend in the UK, I do gather the definition is different there. They certainly seem longer in the UK. In the US, baby dolls tend to stop at waist to top of thigh, although can be a bit longer. I think the length statement is wrong, at least for the US. I can't find any other good references, but at least at Victoria Secret, they are shorter. Wiredrabbit (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 14:34, 15 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]

I just noticed the article says the length is, paraphrasing, both [six inches above the knee] and from [hip length to bellybutton.] Well, is it both? As written the statements are mutually exclusive. Wiredrabbit (talk) 14:38, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the following "The garment's hemline is usually about six inches above the knee like a minidress and may have a scoop-neck. Usually panties are worn underneath." as it contradicts text above it, which I think is more accurate. It still needs proper verification and clarification, but really only one of the two statements could be left in. Better to be a bit inaccurate than self-contradictory.
