Hi, corrected some of the engine data (N52 is successor to the M54, not the M52, and added new versions of the 3-liter N52B30 and new cars that it wasn't listed for.

I'll tooth comb this and other BMW stuff when I have time.

Added a self-taken picture of my N52B30 (195kW/315Nm version, build date 06/11/06) and listed which of the models with the 3-liter N52B30 were exclusive to Europe.

The 328i/xi outputs are not correct for the US. Somehow it seems that the US engine isn't even listed. Specs are here: http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/3/328xicoupe/techdata.htm


How can this be the world's lightest 6-cyl? Surely there is a smaller-displacement engine somewhere that qualifies for the title? Plus, if the given weight of 354lbs is correct then it would be heavier than its own granddaddy the BMW M20.69.205.239.137 (talk) 06:36, 2 January 2008 (UTC) Ni.[reply]

The 2.5si bmw Z4  has the n52 engine at 215bhp.

Replaced old image with a modern higher res self taken one from my 2009 BMW 328i (US Model). The engine shown is this image is the N-52K, which was an upgrade to the original N52. The N-52K started production in September 2006 so almost all N-52s are N-52Ks. The N-52K has the same specs as the N-52 and was made as a correction for some of the most common issues from the original N-52. The most notable difference is the black valve cover on the N-52K instead of the silver on on the original N-52. Heres a quote from a BMW wiki post at (https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1504884) that points out the exact changes: The engine underwent minor modifications in September 2006 and is now designated N52K. With the introduction of the N52K, modifications were made in following areas: • Cylinder head cover • Camshafts • Crankshaft • Stem diameter of exhaust valves increased to 6 mm instead of 5 mm • Torsional vibration damper • Crankcase ventilation • Hot-film air mass meter (HFM) • Throttle valve • Digital motor electronics
