The ATP tennis website lists Marat Safin as number one, not Roger Federer? Why are some saying that Safin is fourth yet the ATP lists him as first?-— Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.92.177.231 (talk) 01:17, 1 February 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reply: Because ATP has two kinds of ranking systems. One is the ATP entry ranking system which evaluates the ranking according to the performance of the players in the past 52 weeks. It is the main ranking. This is the ranking that tournament officials use to decide the "seeds". This is the true reflection of the current top player. For example, right now, Marat Safin's calculated rating for the past 52 weeks is 3360 points. On the other hand Federer's rating is 5975 points.

The second kind of ranking is the ATP Race for a specific year. In this case, all the players's rankings are set to zero at the beginning of each year and the top player in the year is decided at the end of the year. So, ranking according to the ATP race DURING a year means nothing as far as the true current status of the player. --- Zaheen, 14 Feb, 2005.-— Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.151.71.19 (talk) 03:09, 14 February 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Missing former world n.1 player

Hi. You seem to have missed Magnus Norman, of Sweden. He was n.1 in the late first semester of the year 2000 (granted he doesn't even have an article on Wikipedia). Regards, Redux 15:07, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Magnus was never #1 in the entry systems ranking, which is what this ranking table is about. Norman might have led the first ever ATP Champions Race for a brief while, but that's not what we are talking about here. Besides, a lot of players can become #1 in the Champions Race during the course of the year, but in that case, the guy #1 in the entry ranking is still considered the number 1 player in the tour, not the guy who is currently topping the race leaderboard.

For your information here is the history of all the #1 rankings of the ATP era :

Connors Grass Issue

Connors is not listed on top grass singles titles table, but it's mentioned he has 10, tie with Sampras, here http://www.atptennis.com/en/newsandscores/news/2006/wimbledon13.asp Someone please check it up.

Best Start to a year streak

This concept doesn't really make sense - there is no clear "start" of a season. Just because it was a widely quoted stat around the beginning of 2005 doesn't make it a legitimate stat. At best, its out of fashion.-— Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.150.45.86 (talk) 17:00, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
