In the intro sentence: What is "saved the victory" supposed to mean? This needs rephrasing, please. LordAmeth 08:36, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff for Mythbusters?

I have very good reason to believe that Winkelried's feat actually has been historical - and he has not died, but actually survived the battle. The reason is that mail can stand slashes and thrusts well, and it is not very likely to be penetrated by spears, especially when wielded by footmen. If Winkelried has worn a hauberk and gambeson underneath, his vital organs have been fairly well protected, A sudden grabbing of a bunch of spears and then pressing them down is likely to both reduce their thrusting power and capability of penetration. This in turn would suddenly create a gap in the phalanx which can be employed.82.181.79.37 (talk) 16:56, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
