List of notable alumni and staff

Some have articles and some don't. Staff:

NZ Broadcasting School:

MurielMary (talk) 09:26, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There’s nothing wrong with red links in such a list as long as each has a reliable source. Schwede66 15:40, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NASDA:

  • Blackboard Theatre Collective - started by 4 NASDA graduates
  • Adam Spedding

MurielMary (talk) 23:54, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • I added Kaye Woodward - guitarist and vocalist in The Bats (New Zealand band), English Language tutor. Is it okay to use a post in the Ara Library blog to verify Kaye is a tutor at Ara? I got a warning when I put it in.KiwiKA (talk) 02:50, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Anybody added as "notable" ought to be red linked as per WP:REDYES. And there should be a Wikidata entry created if there isn't one already. Can show you tonight how to do that (if you come to the meeting). Schwede66 02:03, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Neil Dawson and Areta Wilkinson - no evidence yet that there were CPIT staff? MurielMary (talk) 11:28, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neil is mentioned as working at CPIT in his Wikipedia article "and taught drawing and design at Christchurch Polytechnic from 1975 to 1983." cited from a Press article
  • I updated Areta's Wikipedia with a citation to her thesis which lists her as a lecturer at CPIT from 2008 to 2009. Is that ok? KiwiKA (talk) 01:25, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I deleted the list of staff and the list of former staff. I have yet to see a university article on wiki that lists its staff; it is very strange. The list of former staff is double strange: who is that of use to? I didn't realize this discussion was in progress. Nevertheless, I don't believe it belongs. There is probably a guideline on this out there somewhere. --- Possibly (talk) 20:33, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And here is the guideline, from WP:UNIVERSITY:
Noted people – This section should give a sense of the extent to which persons with well-known deeds or highly significant accomplishments are or have been associated with the school (as by attendance there or by being on staff or faculty). For most schools this might take the form of a list of people meeting Wikipedia's notability standards (each with perhaps a very brief descriptive phrase), where such a list would not be excessively long. For very old, very large, or very prestigious schools it may be more appropriate to use categories ("Alumni of", "Faculty of", etc. note that "Alumni" categories are only for former students, including graduates; current students are not considered alumni) instead, limiting the explicit list to very well-known persons (heads of state, historical figures, etc.) and adding a narrative summary of statistics on such things as Nobel Prizes, other prestigious awards, and so on.
My read of this is that it is OK to include a list of notable staff or alumni. What was in the article was a bit indiscriminate; about 60% of those listed were not linked to articles. I guess I would be OK with restoring just the notable ones. On the whole though, I think these lists are supposed to be very discriminating and very short. --- Possibly (talk) 20:43, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would support restoring the faculty list, but restricting it to those individuals who have an article or where notability is without question. In the latter case, this should be shown by a red link and an accompanying entry should be created at Wikidata (if there isn't one already), as I've said twice before. Schwede66 20:29, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so are we in agreement that a list of notable staff (current and former?) can be included in the article provided the people on the list either have an article already or have established notability but no article yet? Seeking opinions from KiwiKA Schwede66 Possibly. TIA! MurielMary (talk) 03:49, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sources needed

Great to have the alumni list growing! It's worth also checking that the WP article for the alumni mentions that the person is an Ara/CPIT graduate e.g. the articles for Kris Faafoi and Ben Boyce don't mention this. Need to find a source and add the fact (and source) to their articles. MurielMary (talk) 03:33, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Have added information and citations in articles verifying Kris Faafoi and Ben Boyce are graduates of NZBS.KiwiKA (talk) 20:24, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
