Edit to lead sentence

@Chamanch123: I'm looking at the Apollo website, and I'm seeing references to private equity as a part of the firm's strategy. The firm self-labels as "alternative asset management", and I'm seeing some descriptions of Apollo as being a private markets firm (for example, here). Can you clarify a bit about the business model? It's not clear to me that Apollo isn't a PE firm, even if that's not all it does. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:46, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These terms really are confusing, I appreciate you for asking for clarification.
Apollo Global Management is an alternative asset management firm, and one of the strategies we employ is private equity. Our website explains this pretty well. Asset management is the umbrella term for what Apollo does, and private equity, credit, and real assets all fall under the umbrella of asset management. So the correct descriptor for what we do is alternative asset management.

@Chamanch123 I had a look and agree that asset manager is a more accurate description for the overall business despite a lot of the investments being in private equity. I have update the lede with a better description based on the request. Sargdub (talk) 22:15, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
