Isn't this a drug?

Song name is Animal NitrAte, you say it references Amyl NitrIte...when there's a drug called amyl nitrAte...surely this second compound/substance would make more sense..? But then again Amyl Nitrite, with its uses, fits in better with the theme of the song. Anyone have a definitive answer on this? Sorry if those capitals are a bit patronising.
