The painting depicts the Jesus Christ and how he endured all these pains for our sins. Andrea Mantegna uses a flat surface to illustrate the piece to us the pain that is being inflicted on Jesus Christ for our sins. Mantegna, the Italian painter, is known to portray real life in his pieces. The Lamentation showed figures mourns the death of Christ. It showed Mary, Jesus' mother mourning her son's death and you can see the hurt in her face in the piece. Also, you can see the pain and turmoil in Jesus' face which is full of wrinkles. Also, on the body of Christ, on his feet, we see the holes.

Therefore, the piece "Lamentation over the Dead Christ" by Mantegna, was illustrated in such a way to make us view the piece as real. With the focus on little intricate areas, such as the face of Christ and his feet. He also uses emotion and a space on a flat surface to create his piece.

the holy trinity

the holy trinity is by masaccio, not mantegna.

^^I wish I knew that earlier. :\

I'm not sure when the above exchange took place, but on this topic, I've removed the sentence (below) referring to the Trinity, because I'm not sure which painting is intended. There is a Masaccio picture that fits the description, perhaps that is the one? Thanks, Isocephaly (talk) 21:54, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"This worm's eye perspective, creating an effectively large and prominent setting, is also seen in his work The Holy Trinity with the Virgin, St. John, and Two Donors."
