I would like to point out legend doesn't hold it Alfonso Ugarte rode off a cliff to confuse enemy troops, but rather rode off carrying the Peruvian flag to prevent it being desecrated by the Chileans. Could someone change this?65.10.143.130 20:49, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree that the oral tradition does not support the Peruvian version of Ugarte having a "patriotic moment." I believe the Chilean version that a "stand-off" of the commanders on their steeds occurred. The Chilean horse (today they pin and lift cattle in Chilean rodeos) was stronger and the mounted Ugarte was pushed off the mountain.
