'Active service' means operational service
There has to be a demarcation between soldiers who are 'on active service' (which in the British army means actually out on operations) and those who are not. There is another class of soldier who is 'on the active list', meaning that he/she is available to be sent out on operations, and one can be removed/retired from the active list but still serve in a non-combatant post. Also the US Army includes all overseas service as Active Service. The categories should be kept clear. Valetude (talk) 18:37, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
