A fact from Abraham Lincoln's Lyceum address appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 12 February 2012 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that during his 1838 Lyceum address, Abraham Lincoln(pictured) warned of a tyrant overtaking the United States from within?
Lincoln referred to "the vicious portion of [our] population...ravage and rob...and hang and burn obnoxious persons at pleasure and with impunity, depend upon it, this government cannot last". This has nothing to do with slavery. He was referring to the peculiarly American frontier justice, with posses and lynchings.
