McCausland joined the Rangers Academy from Northern Irish side Linfield in the summer of 2019 for £60,000.[2][3] He signed a contract extension with the club until 2024.[4]

McCausland made his debut for Rangers, replacing Amad as a 61st-minute substitute during a 3–1 win over Heart of Midlothian on 14 May 2022 in which he grabbed an assist as he set up fellow debutant Cole McKinnon for his first goal.[5] He made only one appearance the following season, 2022-23, being used as a substitute by then manager Michael Beale for a league match away to Hibernian on 21 May 2023.[6]

After the sacking of Beale during the 2023-24 season, McCausland started to get a run of games under interim manager Steven Davis and later permanent manager Philippe Clement. On 5 October 2023, he made his first appearance that season, under Davis, verses Cypriot side Aris Limassol, in the UEFA Europa League. McCausland came on as an 84th minute substitute for Scott Wright.[7]

On the 29th of October Rangers fan's would start to grow a liking to McCausland when he replaced Todd Cantwell while Rangers where 1-0 down vs Hearts but was over shadowed when Captain James Tavernier and striker Danilo scored in the last few minutes of the game but many Gers fans wanted McCausland to replace Cantwell on the Rangers starting eleven.

McCausland would start to make noise amongst the Rangers supporters when he thought he had bagged his first Rangers goal in a 0-2 victory away to Livingston in a Scottish Premiership fixture, but it was ruled out as Abdallah Sima was questionably blamed for a foul in the build-up.[8]

McCausland signed a new four-year contract with Rangers on 28 November 2023 and was promoted to the first-team squad permanently.[9] Two days later he celebrated with a first goal for the club, he netted Rangers only goal in an Europa League group stage tie against Aris Limassol.[10] The goal came in the 49th minute as he struck a low finish into the bottom left corner off the post from the edge of the box after coming in as a first half substitute for Todd Cantwell.[10] Days later he would, be awarded man of the match in only his second league start, a 2-0 win against St Mirren.[citation needed]

On December 7th, McCausland would win his first trophy when Rangers captain James Tavernier scored against Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup final witch saw Rangers win there 28th cup with photo's showing McCausland celebrating with teammates Leon King, Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers as well with the Rangers squad at the cup lifting

When Rangers met Kilmarnock F.C. on January 2nd to remember the 1971 Ibrox disaster McCausland would score in the 41st minute with the game ending in a 3-1 win with both Abdallah Sima and Todd Cantwell scoring as well in the match

In a 2-1 loss vs Motherwell, McCausland was tackled by Irish defender Dan Casey witch saw McCausland left in crutches during training sessions and moved from the first team to the bench along side injured teammates Todd Cantwell and Abdallah Sima. With McCausland only making three appearances since the Motherwell game witch saw McCausland miss the 3-3 draw vs Celtic on the 7th of April and Ross only playing for short periods of times.
