Robertson is an unincorporated community in Crosby County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 35 in 2000. It is located within the Lubbock metropolitan area.
History
Robertson was established in 1907. As the population grew, a gin and store were built in 1924. The community continued to grow for the next 20 years, but with the improvement of farming methods, the demand for more farmers decreased. Although the store closed, the gin continued to operate in 1977. The community reported a population of 35 from 1980 through 2000.[2]
Geography
Robertson is located at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 1525 and 378, 16 mi (26 km) east of Lubbock in southwestern Crosby County.[2]
Education
On the property of the V Ranch, three parents—Tom Morrison, Marshall Wheeler, and W. M. (Fiddler) Robertson—constructed a one-room schoolhouse in 1907. The first instructor to work there was Kate Reagan. A. B. Robertson provided property for the construction of a larger facility that replaced the original building in 1914. An increased population led to the building of a new schoolhouse in 1924. As farming techniques advanced, fewer students attended schools. The Robertson school was merged with the Lorenzo Independent School District in 1961, and the elementary school was closed.[2]
