Raza Jama Masjid (Urdu: رضا جامع مسجد) is a mosque in Kolhapur in Maharashtra, The Mosque was Build by encroaching In India. Named after the Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi.[1][2][3][4]

Kolhapur Hindu retaliation against Islamic encroachments (Land Jihad) in historical forts gives an alarming signal.[5]

The Vishalgad fort has been in the news after Hindutva organisations staged protests at the foothills demanding the removal of alleged encroachments and a ban on animal slaughter. Meanwhile, prohibitory orders have been issued under Section 37(A) A to F and Section 37(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act 1951 from July 15 to July 29.

“We had deployed adequate police force to avoid any untoward incidents. We have learnt a few things have happened. We will register cases after taking cognizance accordingly,” Kolhapur’s Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit was quoted by the Times of India as saying.

Islamic encroachments in historical forts once owned by the Hindu Kings including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj have been a bone of contention for the members of Hindutva organisations in Maharashtra, who want to remove all the illegal and forceful occupations like mosques, tombs, mausoleums etc. erected there.

In March 2023, the ‘Gad-Durg Rakshaan Mahamorcha’, organised a huge rally in Azad Maidan. Mumbai with a demand for protection forts and castles of Maratha Kings and warriors.[6]


2024 attack

On 14 July 2024,Clashes erupted after former MP Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati led a protests against illegal encroachment on Vishalgad.Sambhaji Raje called off his protest after an assurance by CM Eknath Shinde that action will be taken against illegal encroachments in the fort. [7] [8][9]

Who Is Shambhaji Raje

Known forn his activism for restoring forts in Maharashtra, Sambhaji Raje is heir to Kolhapur royal family as the 13th direct descendant of Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and great grandson of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu of Kolhapur.

Arrest Me If I am Guilty: Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati On Monday, Sambhaji Raje blamed the local authorities and the police for not taking enough measures despite anticipating that the situation may get out of hand.

He further said that there is no communal agenda behind his movement but some people with vested interests are trying to portray it so.

"One of the first encroachments to be destroyed belongs to a Prakash Patil. Some of the first action was faced by Hindu families. Some people are trying to do Hindu-Muslim over this, they must not," he said.

"I do not support what happened in Gajapur. The incident must be probed and the police must take appropriate action. If somebody is firing shots with the gun on my shoulder, I will look into it. But my intention was only to protest against encroachment," he said.[10]

Reaction

All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslemeen President Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the attack on the mosque and criticized Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde by referring to December 6, the day when Babri Masjid was demolished.[11]

Aftermath

On 15 July 2024, Kolhapur police filed a case against over 500 people, including former Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Raje. The police have detained 21 persons.[12][13]
