Notice from the Portals WikiProject

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Portal updated

This portal has been updated and expanded:

• Overhauled portal with modernized wiki markup using transclusion from articles to display content, which provides readers with current, up-to-date information.
• The portal now has new, separate Featured article and Good article sections, along with the Selected article section.
• New content was added to the three sections stated above.
• Additional updates, cleanup and layout changes have been performed.

Portal status

Is this portal really maintained? Are the biographies representative of the topic? Portal:Ohio/Selected Biography/Nominate seems to have been waiting for an answer to a nomination since 2014. Nemo 20:09, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

• The Selected biography nomination page was never really used after 2010, and was tagged as historical on 18 August 2019 (UTC) (diff). However, I added the GA-class article to the portal and left a reply on the page confirming this (diff). Also, yes, the biography articles are representative of the topic of Ohio, providing readers with an overview of various notable Ohioans. North America¹⁰⁰⁰ 00:48, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

• Links to the obsolete Selected biography nomination page have been removed from the Selected biography portal subpages (example diff). The links no longer appear on the main portal page. North America¹⁰⁰⁰ 01:11, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

• The "Nominate" prose on the subpages of Portal:Ohio/Quotes has been rewritten to read as "More quotes", because the nominations process has not been used since 2008. North America¹⁰⁰⁰ 01:46, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

• Overhauled portal with modernized wiki markup using transclusion from articles listed at Portal:Ohio/Selected Biography to display content, which are now listed directly on the portal's main page. The transclusion process provides readers with current, up-to-date information. Portal:Ohio/Selected Biography is now tagged as historical. North America¹⁰⁰⁰ 02:44, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

The following articles are presently being displayed in the portal using transclusion from articles. Consensus at VPP has approved using transclusion templates in portals, which provides users with up-to-date content that is verbatim to that in articles.
