• 1889 – The Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad, in Colorado, is sold from receivership to the Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Railway.

20th century

• 1918 – New York City Subway's IRT Lexington Avenue Line extension north to 125th Street and through service on the IRT Jerome Avenue Line open.
• 1940 – The last section of the Berlin–Baghdad railway's mainline linking Istanbul and Baghdad is completed between El Yaroubieh and Baiji.
• 1958 – The Railway Enthusiasts Society is formed to promote rail transportation and preservation in New Zealand.
• 1962 – Canadian National Railway debuts a new paint scheme on its transcontinental passenger train, the Super Continental.
