Sheikh Omar Pasigan was a Muslim Filipino Islamic scholar who served as the Grand Mufti of Central Mindanao.[1][2]

Pasigan is one of the founders of the Moro National Liberation Front, and later the breakaway group – the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.[3]

As grand mufti, he had issued multiple fatwa. In 2004, he clarified that Islam is not against family planning. The edict prohibits abortion but allows all forms of contraception that are permitted under sharia.[1][4] In 2010, declaring smoking and promoting cigarettes as haram.[5]

A graduate of the Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Pasigan established the Mahad al-Ulum al-Islamia, the largest madrasa in Cotabato City.[6]

He died on November 20, 2018.[7]
