Please blacklist.-KH-1 (talk) 01:38, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Done, added to the blocked domain list. There's a much longer list of socks that have been slipping those in for the last month (added to list above). Sam Kuru (talk) 03:48, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

Goldenesbrett.guru

Page to be used on is Goldenes Brett. Normally I would have asked for an exception on the whitelist page but the winner of the 2023 award and the 2023 lifetime award are only mentioned on their home page.... They haven't updated their 2023 award page or their list of past winners to include the 2023 awards yet. So it seems like it would require an exception be made for the entire domain. I figured it was blacklisted solely because of the .guru TLD. Would this be feasible or allowable? Jasonkwe (talk) (contribs) 18:09, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

@Jasonkwe: no Declined,  Defer to Whitelist. I don't think .guru will be removed, and we often whitelist whole domains on tlds that are blacklisted. --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:27, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
@Beetstra Ohh, no, I'm sorry. I wasn't asking to remove .guru from the blacklist, just goldenesbrett.guru. I think I misunderstood what was meant on the whitelist page where it said "Requests for a domain to be removed from the blacklist entirely" should be made here. Ok, I'll make the request back over there. Jasonkwe (talk) (contribs) 18:43, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Global filter?

Since enwiki has opted out of the global abuse filter [3] I wanted to clarify if entries there should be ported over here, e.g., Sci-hub extlinks (previous discussion). fgnievinski (talk) 03:42, 10 November 2023 (UTC)

As far as I know there is now global abuse filter disallowing Sci Hub. It's globally blacklisted, but the global spamblacklist applies to enwiki as well. Johannnes89 (talk) 06:32, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

This is unreasonable

I am trying to fix some old Signpost archives, and I keep getting the shit beaten out of me by the spam blacklist. Apparently, there are websites so heinously, murderously evil -- like "about dot com" -- that it's not permissible to link to them, it's not permissible to encode their URLs with templates, it's not permissible to mention them whatsoever, it's not permissible to transclude these pages onto other pages, and it's not permissible to try to edit a page mentions them anywhere in the source code, even if the page is from 2005. Extended-confirmed users cannot override this. Template editors cannot override this. Administrators cannot override this.

Is this really the way it has to be? It's absurd that I have to go through and completely mangle reporting from eighteen years ago, as to make a bunch of URLs useless, because some writer we're referring to was writing for a website which, in the intervening two decades, ended up getting spammed somewhere by someone for some reason. Is there any way to make an exemption based on page name masks?

If it absolutely has to be the case, can we get a bot or something to actually remove or deformat links from Wikipedia pages when they're added to the blacklist? It is ridiculous to have this list implemented in such a way that adding a URL to it just creates hundreds to thousands of "demon pages" that can't be edited or transcluded or formatted or linted whatsoever. jp×g🗯️ 02:54, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

The main issue is the only tool WMF gives sites is a sledgehammer. There have been multiple requests for better options / tools, and it really needs a far better redesign with more flexibility and rules. It's been asked before, but nothing has happened. Ravensfire (talk) 03:39, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
JPxG, you mean {{User:Alexis Jazz/AboutBlacklist}}? I had succcessfully added a link to about⸼com, only reason I removed it again is that I accidentally just denied everybody from editing this page in the process. Cool huh? phab:T351124
They are on the global blacklist, why don't we just add them to MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist? And while Special:AbuseFilter should be used sparsely, if about .com is still being spammed (is it??) this may be one of the cases where AbuseFilter is the right tool to restrict something to extendedconfirmed.Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 21:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
see [4][5][6][7][8]. Archived versions of about.com are whitelisted [9], the live website should not be added to any Wikipedia article. Johannnes89 (talk) 06:29, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Johannnes89, how are you supposed to do that when using {{Cite web}}? Use the archive URL as the current URL and remove the archive-date? You can't simply omit the url parameter, that causes the template to complain. url-status=usurped
If there is currently still spamming this should be handled using Special:AbuseFilter. Once all existing links have been dealt with about.com can go on the blacklist and the AbuseFilter entry can be removed.Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 07:27, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Baseflow

I see the website is blacklisted because of an issue with the .xyz TLD. Baseflow is a well-known investment migration startup backed by reputable tech investors like Tim Draper and Balaji Srinivasan (see Crunchbase: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/baseflow). As such, it can be an excellent reference for the investment migration and citizenship by investment industry, having primary sources of information from the governments Baseflow works with.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Recouso (talkcontribs)

Defer to Whitelist I'm not convinced a startup site is a great WP:RS with a lot of applications. If such a usage does arise, it could be requested as an individual whitelisting. The link that you attempted to add to Immigrant investor programs would have been reverted as spam had it not already been blacklisted. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:03, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

privatejetcardcomparisons.com

Link was previously spammed by the site owner who has admitted to using it on Wikipedia. I am here as I am advising the site owner on SEO best practices and see that the link being on the blacklist is harming that website in search results. He is aware, both from the initial blacklist and through my advice, that Wikipedia is not to be used for promotional purposes. There will be no attempt to add this link to Wikipedia but asking for it to be removed as Google devalues the website because of it being on the blacklist.--BensonCnslt (talk) 04:31, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Not done Google's devaluation of your site is not our concern. OhNoitsJamie Talk 19:04, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Multiple, obvious spam citation links have targeted this domain (by user Sbenson82). I have removed all the spam links. This website/domain is not notable, is commercial self/vanity published, and has done repeated spamming. no Declined Thank you for removing those, but four links from a single user who hasn't been active since 2021 doesn't merit a blacklisting at this point. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:14, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

The site has been spammed into various health insurance related topics and substances numerous times. Many were drive-by bombing perpetrated by India IPs. Addition of info into pages such as US health insurer pages by India IPs is a pretty good indication of promotional spam editing. There's just no value as a source and it has no place beyond being listed as official website for the article about itself. Graywalls (talk) 21:39, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
