Google URLs

OK, we need to discuss this. Why are Google URLs blacklist, and shouldn't we remove it. I today edited an AfD debate but was stopped because of it. They aren't. I think ToadetteEdit was trying to use google as a URL redirect for some reason, and it hit a regex on the global blacklist that prevents this. Can you just try adding the 'tubefilter' URL your were trying to add directly? Sam Kuru (talk) 23:01, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
Google search result links are blacklisted, because they will increase the pagerank of the site visited. There are also privacy implications of this with Google vacuuming up people's data. You should click through to the actual page you want and link that.

Percona is mentioned widely on WP, and cannot be cited.
Specifically I have references in my sandbox which I have had to mangle to retain.

I'll allow others to weight in first, but I would endorse removing this link from the blacklist; it's a very popular database, and the knowledge base is a reasonable source for database-related topics. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:23, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

I'm not sure about this one, but ReadCube appears to be (in part) a URL shortening service, which we seem to discourage. WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:37, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

If we were to blacklist it, we'd need to clean up the existing links first. That said, it seems like while it is a redirect service, the sample of links I examined all went to reasonble academic sites, so it may be an exception to the redirect rule. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:00, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
Based on the discussion at User talk:Galobtter#DOIs, I wonder if it's being used for these official shared links, in which case I'm thinking that this should probably be an accepted link. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
From what I can see this allows the links to be read without requiring a university login or other subscription, so I think the balance of convenience may favour not blacklisting it. Stifle (talk) 08:57, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

impossible.sg

Link to a digital marketing agency. All of the listed accounts only added the link once. All have edited constructively for a day or so, then took a break (most 5 months or so, though a few just a week or 2) and came back and edited 1 more day. Here, they sneakily adding this link as a ref, made a few more constructive edits, and never edited again. I find it hard to assume good faith with the pattern, but even if I'm just being cynical, this link is worthless as a source or external link.
