Does Tibetan really have a voiced pharyngeal fricative? I think this is an error; the article on Standard Tibetan says it's a glottal stop [ʔ]. AlexanderKaras (talk) 14:14, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They are WRONG! It's a fricative or approximant in all the dialects which show a reflex. Look especially at reports on Amdo dialects. Matisoff made a mistake thinking it was a stop, and then confused it with the last letter in the alphabet ( 'a ), which IS a stop. Jakob37 (talk) 23:19, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that may be, but what I'm asking is if it is specifically a voiced pharyngeal fricative. - AlexanderKaras (talk) 03:21, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One might imagine how it could be mistakenly thought to be a native part of the language as a mistranscribed and (maybe mispronounced) Sanskrit semivowel borrowing.  :^) :^) Xeltifon (talk) 23:49, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tildes

I'm not a fan of representations in the table like this: ~ ʈʂ]. We should either pick one and go with it or clarify the context of the distribution if the tilde represents allophony — Ƶ§œš¹ [ãːɱ ˈfɹ̠ˤʷɪ̃ə̃nlɪ] 13:40, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we should pick one. Probably whichever is standard in Lhasa. — kwami (talk) 20:05, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
