Format

The format is pretty close to what we like in these IPA for X templates, but there are a few things that we should do to improve it.

  1. We should have an English approximation column for those not in a position to play audio files.
  2. We only need one example word per sound. The examples might as well align with those of the audio files.
  3. Some items are not parsed helpfully. For example, there's an entry of dzʷ~dʒʷ (formerly dzʷ/dʒʷ). But this won't help editors know how to transcribe. Is this a dialectal difference and, if so, are we encoding this difference in our transcriptions? Is it allophonic? If that's the case, then these should be separate items. Similarly, rising and falling diphthongs are combined together as in aj, ja even though these are different sounds from each other. They should be separated
  4. There are only three vowels. These vowels don't align with what's at Adyghe phonology. Some of our articles include other vowels, including ʊ and o.
  5. We should reconcile our transcriptions with our key.
