The Heard National Bank Building was a building in Jacksonville, Florida, built in 1913. It was the tallest building in Florida for over a decade.[2] It was demolished in 1981 and is now the site of the Bank of America Tower.[3]
History
Construction on the Heard National Bank Building started in 1911. In 1913, the building was erected. Upon completion it had 15 stories, was 180 feet (55 m) tall, and became the tallest building in Florida. It was demolished in 1981 and replaced by the current tallest building in Jacksonville: the Bank of America Tower. The entrance columns to the former building are the only remaining parts of the structure. It is the only one of Florida's tallest buildings to be destroyed.[4]
