Storm Irene[1], known in Germany as Storm Gertrud[2], was an extratropical cyclone which affected Western Europe in January 2024. The twenty-third windstorm of the 2023–24 European windstorm season, Irene was first noted by [to be determined].
Preparations
The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera issued a yellow rain and wind alert for the Azores, Madeira Islands, and Portugal. Additionally, an orange wind, rain, and coastal event warning was hoist for the southern parts of Madeira.[3] On 17 January, Météo-France hoisted an orange snow and ice for Northern France, with yellow avalanche warnings in effect fot the Alps regions of eastern France.[4] Furthermore, an orange wind warning was hoisted for portions of northern Spain, with a yellow wind and rain warning issued for most of the country[5] In Germany, the Deutscher Wetterdienst issued several snow and ice warning for the nation, as significant impacts were anticipated.[6]
