Pioneer Fund[1] is a private venture capital firm, founded by Y Combinator alumnus, Jason Gray, in 2017. The company is jointly headquartered in Toronto, Ontario and San Francisco, and has over $200 million of assets under management. Pioneer Fund's team includes 10 full-time members, including 5 partners, and 435 Y Combinator alumni serving as Venture Partners. Pioneer Fund leverages this vast network and depth and breadth of expertise to invest in the top start-ups within Y Combinator.

Leading the Way

As of the end of the first quarter of 2024, Pitchbook[2] counts Pioneer Fund as the most active VC investor (ignoring accelerators) in North America, and second in the world. Pioneer Fund has invested in over 500 portfolio companies and is adding to its portfolio by approximately 120 companies per year. Pioneer Fund is currently making Seed investments from its Fund III and its AI and Bio Funds (its first two sector-focused funds), and follow-on investments from its Fund II. Approximately 75% of Pioneer Fund's portfolio companies are North America-based, with the remaining 25% being Rest of World.
