Philippi Village is a community development hub in Cape Town, Western Cape province of South Africa.[1]
It is home to entrepreneurs and small business owners with retail, office and event space as well as sporting, educational and cultural facilities.[2]
Background
It focuses on providing collaborative workspaces for small and micro business owners as well as creating employment opportunities and upskilling the local Philippi community.[3][4]It also provides a safe place for social engagement for communities such as Mitchells Plain, Langa, Cape Flats and surroundings which are plagued by social ills.[5][6] The hub is seen as a model to other communities is South Africa to reduce crime, fight drug abuse and to part skills to local entrepreneurs to build local economies. Philippi Village was founded by Bushra Razack, an award-winning community developement specialist and humanitarian.[7] In 2023 she was counted among the 40 Under 40 Awards in South Africa for her work at Philippi Village.[8]
