Pauline Nguyen (born c. 1972) is an Australian author, restaurant owner and speaker.[1] Nguyen is a co-founder of the Red Lantern restaurant in Sydney. She has authored several publications and, in 2020, appeared in season three of Filthy Rich and Homeless.[2]

Early life and education

Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1972. Nguyen and her family migrated to Australia in 1976, settling in Cabramatta, NSW.[3] In 1992, Nguyen entered university, studying a Bachelor of Arts, Majoring in Communication at University of Technology, Sydney. [4][5]

Career

Restaurateur

In 2002, Nguyen co-founded the restaurant Red Lantern in Sydney with chef and brother Luke.[6] Known for its Vietnamese cuisine, the restaurant was a winner in the 2012 Telstra NSW Business Awards.[7]

Author

In 2010, one of her essays was selected to appear in The Best Australian Essays 2010, edited by Robert Drewe.[8] Her publications as an author or contributor include:

Television

Nguyen participated in the third season of Filthy Rich and Homeless, a documentary series broadcast in Australia in 2020.[2] The series aims to highlight the issue of homelessness by having participants live without their usual comforts and resources, simulating the experiences of homeless individuals.
