Draft:Mario Joyce
Submission declined on 12 July 2024 by Cabrils (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources.

Improving your odds of a speedy review To improve your odds of a faster review, tag your draft with relevant WikiProject tags using the button below. This will let reviewers know a new draft has been submitted in their area of interest. For instance, if you wrote about a female astronomer, you would want to add the Biography, Astronomy, and Women scientists tags. Editor resources

Comment: Well done on creating the draft, and it may potentially meet the relevant requirements (including WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO) but presently it is not clear that it does. As you may know, Wikipedia's basic requirement for entry is that the subject is notable. Essentially subjects are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. To properly create such a draft page, please see the articles ‘Your First Article’, ‘Referencing for Beginners’ and ‘Easier Referencing for Beginners’. Please note that many of the references are not from sources that are considered reliable for establishing notability and should be removed (including blogs, company websites, Twitter, YouTube). Please note that many of the references are not formatted correctly (see Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor and Wikipedia’s Manual of Style for help). Additionally, the draft tends to read too much like a CV, which Wikipedia is not; and contains writing and spelling errors that are not of a standard appropriate for an encyclopedia. Also, if you have any connection to the subject, including being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link). Please familiarise yourself with these pages before amending the draft. If you feel you can meet these requirements, then please make the necessary amendments before resubmitting the page. It would help our volunteer reviewers by identifying, on the draft's talk page, the WP:THREE best sources that establish notability of the subject. It would also be helpful if you could please identify with specificity, exactly which criteria you believe the page meets (eg "I think the page now meets WP:ANYBIO criteria #3, because XXXXX"). Once you have implemented these suggestions, you may also wish to leave a note for me on my talk page and I would be happy to reassess. Cabrils (talk) 00:37, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
Mario Joyce is a self-taught, Black American artist based in Los Angeles, California. His process began early and was heavily influenced by prejudices experienced growing up Black and Queer in rural Ohio. He uses genealogical research, soil from the Ohio farm he grew up on, vintage collage materials and oil paint in his work.[1]
Joyce is a 2023 alum of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture [2], has recently completed the Pratt>FORWARD residency at New Lab in Brooklyn Navy Yard.[3]. In 2022, Joyce opened “A Stranger’s House That Is Our Own with UTA Artist Space in Atlanta’s historical Pullman Yards [4]. His 2023 solo exhibition “Gravity” was with Sakhile&Me in Frankfurt, Germany [5] His 2024 exhibition “Amaryllis’ Garden” was held at UTA Artist Space in Beverly Hills [6]. His work was also exhibited at Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland by Vielmetter Los Angeles in 2024 [7]. Joyce was a 2024 visiting artist at the Ohio State University’s Department of Art [8]
