The Kishore Bahini is the largest children and pioneer organization in West Bengal, with chapters in several neighboring states.

History

The Kishore Bahini was established on April 15, 1943, during Pohela Boishakh at Bharat Seva Hall in Calcutta. On that historic day, April 15, 1943 (1st Baisakh of Bengali year 1349), three hundred young boys and girls gathered together. The presidium was elected, consisting of Haraprasad, Biren, and Shefalika. Renowned journalist Satyen Majumdar blessed the event with his inaugural address. It was initiated by student leader Annada Shankar Bhattacharyya with the motto "Education-Health-Service-Independence."

Though Annada Shankar Bhattacharyya was the leader of this organization, as of the Rajshahi conference in August 1943, after Annada Shankar Bhattacharyya was elected General Secretary of the Bengal Provincial Student Federation, Sukanta Bhattacharya was handed over the responsibility of the head of the organization.

Initially operating from the Student Federation office at the intersection of College Street and Bowbazar Street, the organization later relocated to 8/2 Bhawani Dutta Lane and currently resides at 80, AJC Road, Kolkata-700014.

The organization expanded rapidly, boasting 300 branches across Bengal by August 1943, half of which were in Kolkata. During the Famine of 1943, Kishore Bahini played a pivotal role in relief efforts, volunteering at rice distribution centers and collecting food donations through door-to-door appeals to aid the extremely impoverished and needy individuals in their communities. They also helped people standing in line for ration and kerosene to get their rightful dues.
