The Honourable Mr. Justice Jon Isaacs is the son of Samuel “Sammy” and Marjorie Isaacs; and a member of a family of well-known political and sporting personalities. His early education was at St Georges and Sands preparatory schools. He later attended St Anne’s high school and later, Cornwall College, Montego Bay, Jamaica where he was made Head Boy.

Upon graduating, he requested and was granted permission to teach at Cornwall where he remained for a year before attending the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; there he received a B.A. (Hons.) In Political Science with a minor in History in 1979.

He read Law at the University of the West Indies and acquired his professional qualification at the Norman Manley Law School in 1984.

He was called to The Bahamas Bar on 6 October 1984 and immediately joined the Chambers of the Attorney General. His public service included serving as Prosecutor, Advisor and Civil Litigation Attorney at the Office of the Attorney-Generalfor thirteen years. He rose to the post of Assistant Director of Legal Affairs until his appointment as Chief Magistrate in January 1997, where he served for three years until he was appointed to act as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

Justice Isaacs was confirmed as Justice of the Supreme Court on 1 February 2002. He was appointed as Honourable Senior Justice of the Supreme Court on 1 September 2009.

On 14 October 2014, Senior Justice Jon Isaacs was appointed a Justice of the Court of Appeal.

Justice Isaacs has participated as a tutor during the currency of the articled law students’ progamme and acted as a Chairman of the Bar’s Disciplinary Tribunal for several years.

He has served on appeals panels for several associations, including The Bahamas Football Association and The Bahamas Rugby Football Union and The Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission’s Anti-Doping Appeals Tribunal.

He is a fellow of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute.

Justice Isaacs is the parent of twin sons, Jon and Jordan.

Consonant with his pedigree, Justice Isaacs has represented The Bahamas internationally in rugby and in football (soccer). He is an avid tennis player and participates often in local

tournaments. He is a member of The Bahamas Lawn and Tennis Association and a past member of the Baillou and Cuckoos Rugby Football Clubs.
