Eseye

Eseye Ltd. is a UK-based telecommunications company offering IoT connectivity solutions.[^[1]]^[2][19][20][42] It provides global M2M-managed connectivity across all devices[2] with its AnyNet+ SIM and Infinity IoT Connectivity Management Platform. Eseye's technology allows businesses to overcome the complexity of global IoT deployments, with access to a powerful virtual mobile network with more than 700 mobile network partners providing reliable connections in 190 countries.[3]

Overview

Headquartered in Guildford, Surrey, Eseye provides connectivity services for global cellular connectivity from initial concept to global deployment. The company's service optimizes device connectivity across second-generation (2G), third-generation (3G), fourth-generation (4G), and fifth-generation (5G) cellular coverage through connectivity, technical device services, and hardware wherever they are deployed globally. It also offers over-the-air updates of device-level policies to ensure long-term connectivity, compliance, and security, enabling businesses to realize the cost-saving, efficiency-driving, data-enhancing, and product-innovating opportunities of over-the-air Internet of Things.[4] Together, its AnyNet+ eSIM technology, Infinity IoT Connectivity Platform, and partner ecosystem[27] connect millions of devices across 190 countries, bringing together over 700 networks for near 100% global coverage. Global brands that trust Eseye to deliver include Costa Express (part of the Coca-Cola Group), Bosch, Amazon, Siemens, and Gilbarco Veeder-Root.[5] Eseye’s business revolves around offering the highest level of connectivity possible for IoT networks, working closely with clients on device design. In a connected-by-design approach, connectivity considerations are at the forefront of a product design process, permeating the whole development process. More than other IT applications, building successful IoT solutions requires a tailored approach. Every device and use case is unique, and each deployment comes with its own constraints and idiosyncrasies. While embedding connectivity intelligence upfront increases flexibility and resiliency and helps future-proof a deployment, ideally ‘connected-by-design’ uses a holistic approach in which all components of the solution are cross-optimized. It helps customers realize lasting value from global IoT projects by bringing the deep device expertise needed to integrate, manage, and optimize IoT connectivity for estates of any scale or complexity. From infrastructure and connectivity to device design and data management, the IRL Index covers every critical aspect of IoT integration. The index is inspired by NASA's Technology Readiness Level (TRL), widely regarded as the benchmark for gauging the maturity of new technologies. Eseye's IRL Index provides customers with a personalized assessment of their IoT readiness. By comparing their capabilities against market best practices and similar projects in their industry, organizations can gain valuable insights into their current position on a scale of 0 to 9.[7]

History

Eseye Limited was founded by Ian Marsden[9] and Paul Marshall in October 2007.[10] In November 2012, Eseye acquired Dataflex, an M2M hardware developer.[11] In July 2014, Eseye raised $8,618,000 in a series A round from Quona Capital.[12] In September 2014, Eseye’s partner, M-KOPA, achieved the goal of connecting 100,000 homes in East Africa to light and power using solar technology and M2M connectivity.[43] In August 2015, Eseye raised $2,641,000 in a series A round from Quona Capital.[12] In November 2016, Eseye announced its AWS Advanced Technology Partner status.[32] In July 2018, the company appointed its current CEO, Nick Earle.[33] In December 2018, Eseye raised $3,336,000 in a series A round from Quona Capital.[12] In February 2019, Eseye established AnyNet Federation, with more than 700 cellular networks working together to standardize connectivity for IoT devices.[27] In September 2019, Costa Coffee selected Eseye to help transform the global retail coffee experience. The partnership enabled Costa Express to deploy IoT-enabled vending machines worldwide.[44] In July 2020, Eseye raised $2,224,000 in a series A round from Quona Capital.[12] The same month, the company launched AnyNet+ SIM in July 2020, the world's most reliable IoT eSIM, using both Multi-IMSI and eUICC technologies in one.[34] In February 2021, Eseye secured C$26.3 million in growth private equity investment from TELUS Ventures.[12][13][14][15] Eseye announced a new strategic partnership with TELUS, which saw Eseye's Connectivity Platform power TELUS Global Connect.[46] In September 2021, Eseye obtained a non-geographic MCC 901 (MNC 82) code. In November 2021, Eseye obtained a US-specific MCC 310 (MNC 460) MCC code. In January 2022, Telli Health partnered with Eseye to provide embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC) eSIM cards for all remote patient monitoring (RPM) devices that can roam on any cellular network, the first approved eUICC eSIM solution in the US.[45] In May 2022, Eseye launched the Infinity IoT Platform and was the first to offer true commercial flexibility from operators, being a single platform to manage SIMs from multiple providers, simplifying connectivity and OTA updates.[16] In February 2023, Sequans released the world's first multi-carrier [[1]] solution for IoT by collaborating with Eseye.[17] The combined solution – Sequans' easySWAP platform to activate and switch global IoT connectivity in an embedded SIM and Eseye's AnyNet international connectivity service to preload connectivity to regional carriers inside an IoT module, provides enterprise customers with coverage insurance by allowing them to activate the SIM and switch SIM carriers at any time, in both pre and post-deployment phases.[18] In May 2023, Eseye launched its IoT Readiness Level Index, supported by its IoT LaunchPad subscription service.[7] In August 2023, Eseye joined the IoT M2M Council (IMC), the world's largest trade organization for IoT users, to promote its hardware-first approach to deploying IoT connectivity technology.[21] In Sep 2023, MTN South Africa selected Eseye's Integra IoT platform for MNOs to provide connectivity and a range of IoT value-added services in South Africa. The agreement will see Eseye’s Integra solution deployed in South Africa, with the aim of expanding the solution to 18 operating companies across Africa. It will allow the different operating companies to evolve and utilize the solution to meet their own requirements and specific market needs.[22]

Products and solutions

AnyNet+ SIM

This award-winning SIM combines eUICC and multi-IMSI technology to deliver simple, secure, and intelligent global cellular connectivity for devices supported by a powerful enterprise IoT platform. It is the most advanced IoT SIM, offering unlimited coverage and flexibility, improving uptime and service quality, and connecting to 700 networks.[25]

iSIM

In collaboration with Eseye, Sequans released the world's first multi-carrier iSIM Solution, Sequans easySWAP. It allows enterprises to activate global connectivity via an embedded iSIM and change carriers without physically adding or changing (e)SIMs, making way for integrating mobile services into IoT devices.[26][35]

AnyNet SMARTconnect

In January 2023, Eseye launched its first-to-market AnyNet SMARTconnect solution. It is an innovative, flexible, agnostic on-device connectivity plug-in software that meets the need for secure, scalable, and resilient global connectivity. Supplied as an independent plug-in software module, AnyNet SMARTconnect codifies Eseye's expertise into powerful and flexible device connectivity software that partners and customers can easily integrate into any IoT or connected device.[16][23]

Infinity IoT Platform

Eseye's innovative IoT connectivity management platform, Infinity IoT Platform, enables customers to scale and evolve their IoT deployment easily to suit their needs, allowing them to make the right carrier choices wherever they are in the world. With Infinity, organizations can right-size, change, and optimize connectivity as their requirements, the market, and technology evolve. Single pane-of-glass visibility and centralized reporting ensure the platform captures and manages everything, utilizing analytics and AI, reducing service overheads across global IoT estates, and significantly cutting the total cost of ownership.[24]

HERA IoT routers

In 2013, Eseye announced the launch of the HERA600 series of integrated services routers. The Hera router range is a seamless cellular data connectivity solution for sensor technology. Due to its dual SIM failover solution, the robust Wi-Fi and 3G enterprise router with network flexibility provides secure, reliable connectivity to multiple devices, along with full network redundancy.[28]

AnyNet Federation

AnyNet Federation was created with over 700 cellular networks working together to standardize connectivity for IoT devices. With immediate access to over 700 networks, it offers instant global connectivity without the hassle of negotiating contracts with individual carriers. Devices have the widest choice of local network connections and roaming partners.[27]

Research

Eseye's 2023 State of IoT Adoption report has exposed that sub-standard connectivity jeopardizes project success for enterprises. The study, conducted by independent research organization Opinion Matters, involved 1,009 senior decision-makers in the U.K. and the U.S. across various industries, like healthcare, retail and vending, supply chain & logistics, asset monitoring, EV charging, bill management, and renewables & utilities, and explored challenges, opportunities, and budget forecasts for the next two years.

Eseye's report revealed that just one percent of respondents achieved connectivity levels exceeding 98 percent across their device estates. Only 16 percent reported achieving connectivity levels surpassing 95 percent. This revelation raises significant concerns, especially in the context of mission-critical IoT devices. Such devices necessitate near-100 percent connectivity, yet the study indicates a disturbing acceptance of sub-par performance. Especially in the case of mission-critical IoT devices, such as those used for healthcare and medical reasons, losing connectivity can potentially have a serious human impact.[29] This research has been conducted since 2021, with three reports produced in consecutive periods.
