Ali Pasha of Tepelena (Albanian: Ali Pasha i Tepelenës) wanted to suppress the rebellions of Souliotes. He tried to raze their villages and forcibly evict them and partially succeeded but with mass sacrifice of army (Turks and Albanians). Ali Pasha's ordered to brought Lambros Tzavelas and his son Fotis in front of him by his own order. Then Ali Pasha told Lambros that he would spare his life if he convinced the Souliotes to stop maintaining this attitude towards the Ottomans. Lambros Tzavelas agreed. Ali Pasha told him that he will keep his son Fotis, and in case he did not keep his promise, they would kill him. Lambros agreed again and left. But after that, not only he didn't told anything to Souliotes but he scheduled a attack on the place of Ali Pasha. He sent a letter to Ali Pasha that was saying that if his Son is a true man and patriot he will sacrifice himself for his fatherland but if not he will deserve to die ingloriously.
