A cytobrush is a plastic tool used to obtain cells from the cervix during the procedure of a pap smear.[1][2] It is often used combined with a cervical broom.[3]
It became popular in the 1990s and has largely replaced the traditional wooden Ayre's spatula.[4] A cytobrush is relatively inexpensive and easy to use.[4] It may be used in veterinary medicine to take samples from the eye.[5]
