Balderdash! Anybody who edits Wikipedia from an IP is by definition publishing that IP address to the world for all time. There can be no expectation of privacy in such circumstances. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:16, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

If the IP addresses are collected and associated with a name, then privacy has been violated. This is because the IP addresses allow others to locate that person's geographical region precisely. You've associated my location with libelous and false information, since as a teacher of philosophy, I questioned over a period of time whether Ayn Rand could be considered a philosopher, based on my view of philosophy as a civil and two-way conversation.

You may be interested to know that I have changed my views on Rand since by now she is being cited enough such that her gibbering ghost, like that of Nietzsche or Althusser, may now be welcomed, and I posted a retraction of my earlier views based on my change in view.

The problem is only tangentially invasion of privacy. It's virtual slave labor, where you used my contributions to Wikipedia from 2005 and then turned around and attacked me based on your collective failure to understand English above a low upper bound of complexity, and when I responded, you, right up to Jimbo Wales (who's made insulting comments on my blog) you acted less as collegiate members of a learned profession and more as Southern slave-masters and the managers of convenience stores.

Very few of you have the courage to post under your own name because you're afraid of losing your jobs at Costco. I'm past that fear. But clearly, you conduct vindictive campaigns against contributors in order to ensure that Jimbo's profit-making ventures can benefit from his nonprofit Wikipedia in a way that violates US tax law.
