- Mari was an ancient Sumerian (2900 BCE) and Amorite city, on the western bank of Euphrates River, in present-day Syria.
- The archaeological site and ruins are located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) northwest of Abu Kamal and 120 kilometres (75 mi) southeast of Deir ez-Zor, northeastern Syria.
