- Early Soviet republics (c. 1917–1923) — former socialist republics formed from the revolutions of 1917–1923 and the early Interwar period.
- Most were located within the former Russian Empire territories after the collapse of Imperial Russia, and existed between the 1917 Russian Revolution and the 1922 founding of the Soviet Union. Some were Bolshevik inspired early socialist republics elsewhere in Europe &/or Asia.
