- This category is for Americans who have won at least one stage in the Tour de France. In road bicycle racing, each stage in a stage race is really a separate race, and winning one, particularly one in the Tour de France, is considered to be a very high achievement for a bicycle racer. Mario Cipollini, for example, boasts the greatest number of stage wins in the Giro d'Italia. The list of American cyclists who had won stages in the Tour de France is so significant and notable in the cycling world that OLN displayed it repeatedly during the broadcast of the 2006 Tour de France.
