Carleigh Bodrug is a Canadian vegan/plant-based author, known for her PlantYou cookbooks.
Early life
Bodrug grew up on a farm in Ontario, Canada,[1] and studied journalism at the University of Western Ontario.[2] She switched to a plant-based diet after her father was diagnosed with colon cancer.[2]
Career
Bodrug's first job was at a radio station.[2] She also created her PlantYou Instagram account in 2016 to document plant-based cooking, eventually becoming a full-time food blogger.[2] She published her first cookbook in 2022,[2] and her second cookbook in 2024.[3]
Honors and awards
PlantYou: 140+ Ridiculously Easy, Amazingly Delicious Plant-Based Oil-Free Recipes won first place in the 2023 IVFF awards,[4] and was shortlisted for the 2023 Taste Canada Awards Health or Special Diet Cookbooks.[5]
In addition, Runner's World included PlantYou as one of the "6 Best Vegan Cookbooks to Get More Plants in Your Diet" in 2022,[6] Food & Wine named it one of the 18 best vegan cookbooks for "every type of meal" in 2023,[7] and VegNews listed PlantYou: Scrappy Cooking as one of the "Top 100 Vegan Cookbooks of All Time" in 2024.[3]
