Background and recording

Three months after releasing their fourth studio album, Best Night of My Life, American Authors announced that they were working on their next album in June 2023.[1] On July 17, 2023, the band posted a short video on several platforms explaining some of the thought process behind the new album.[2] Drum player Matt Sanchez explained some of the inspiration behind the new album: “We’re channeling Crosby, Stills & Nash…we’re channeling that era of music. When you listen back to that stuff it almost feels brand new and it’s so inspiring.” In that same video, Dave Rublin, bass player, shared "What we're gonna do in this new album is play homage to the sounds and the songs of the past and reinvent it in a sweet way so everyone can feel that good vibe that we grew up having." The album was recorded throughout 2023 in multiple recording sessions. The banded ended with recording over 40 songs for the record.[3] By January 2024, the band was putting the finishing touches on the album.[4]

Promotion

Throughout 2023 and 2024, the album was heavily teased through clips on social media of several unreleased songs. On March 8, 2024, the band announced that their fourth album will be titled "Call Your Mother" and the lead single, My Last Dime, would be released on March 29.[5] On April 8, 2024, the band released a live performance of “My Last Dime,” featuring Andrew Horowitz of the band Tally Hall.[6]

One week later, on April 15, the band announced the second single from the album, Daisies, which was released on April 19, 2024. Later that day, they also released an official lyric video, which also served as the music video for Daisies.[7] The band also released a phone booth lyric video on May 7, 2024 on YouTube.[8]

The third single was a cover of the Eagle-Eye Cherry hit song, Save Tonight, was released on May 17, 2024.

On June 17, 2024, American Authors announced on several social media websites that they would be releasing the album"s fourth single, "Can't Stand The Mourning," which was released on June 21.[9] An official lyric video was also released that day on YouTube.[10]

Later that week, the band announced that they would be going back on a headlining tour, dubbed the “Call Your Mother Tour,” to promote their fifth album. They also shared in that announcement that the album would be released in full on October 18, 2024.[11]
