The Atlantic black-throated trogon (Trogon chrysochloros) is a bird in the trogon family, Trogonidae that is found in southeastern South America.
Details
It breeds in lowlands of eastern and southern Brazil, Paraguay and northeastern Argentina.[2] It has a yellow belly, pale blue eyerings and a yellow bill. Like all trogons, the Atlantic black-throated trogon has distinct sexual dimorphism. The male has a greenish-blue upperpart, while the female has a brown one.[3] It was previously considered conspecific with other black-throated trogons.[2] The species epithet chrysochloros derives from the Greek χρυσος/khrusos means gold, and χλωρος/khlōros means green.[3]
Two subspecies are recognised:[2]
- T. c. muriciensis Dickens, Bitton, Bravo & Silviera, 2021, northeastern Brazil (Alagoas)
- T. c. chrysochloros Pelzeln, 1856, eastern and southern Brazil, Paraguay and northeastern Argentina
