Aegista is a genus of air-breathing land snails, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Camaenidae.[1]

Anatomy

Species within this genus create and use love darts as part of their mating behavior.

Description

The thin shell is depressed and widely umbilicated. The shell is uniform corneous. The shell is strongly sculptured. The periphery is rounded, or obtusely angulated. The body whorl is descending in front. The peristome is slightly expanded, a little thickened within. [2]

Distribution

This genus of snails is distributed throughout from Southeast Asia to temperate East Asia.
