National Supercross Championship (India)

The MRF Mogrip FMSCI National Supercross Championship stands tall as the premier supercross competition in India. The annual championship is conducted by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). The event is sponsored by the leading tire manufacturer MRF Limited and organized by GODSPEED Racing[1][2].

History

The foundations of the National Supercross Championship can be traced to the mid-1980s when organized supercross events began emerging in India. These early events were primarily regional and lacked a unified format. However, after 2000s, the championship structure has solidified, attracting a broader range of participants and gaining national recognition.[3]

Organization and Format

The Championship typically follows a multi-round format consisting of 5-7 rounds held throughout the year at various locations in India.[4] Each round follows a two-day structure:

  • Group C, Novice, up to 260cc
  • Indian experts, Group C, up to 260cc

  • Group A, SX2, up to 250cc/500cc

Riders earn points based on their finishing position in races within their class. The rider with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the National Supercross Champion in their category.[5][6]

Significance

The National Supercross Championship holds significant importance in the Indian motorsport landscape. It provides a platform for riders to hone their supercross skills, gain competitive experience, and potentially progress to international racing opportunities. Moreover, the annual championship fosters the growth of motorcycle racing culture in India, generating excitement and inspiring future generations of riders and enthusiasts.[7] Imran Pasha, Suhail Ahammad, CS Santosh, Aravind KP, Harith Noah, C Vijay Kumar & CD Jinan are some of the notable riders emerged from this Championship.[8][9][10] [11]
