Simple example?

Could someone add a very very simple example? For example, what's the kernel of $f(x)=x^{2}$? If that's a nonsensical question, why? —Ben FrantzDale 21:44, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

that corresponding kernel is the equivalence relation x ~ y if x^2 = y^2. so we identify x with -x and effectively what you have left is the, say, right half of the real line [0, ∞). Mct mht 07:08, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
