Shikanji or Shikanjabeen is a lemon-based drink originating in the northern part of India.[1] Historically it was called as sherbet-e-shikanjavin. Alternative names include shikanjvi, shikanjbi and shikanjbeen. Shikanji is distinct from lemonade, and often contains other ingredients such as salt, saffron and cumin.[2]

Beyond its origins in India, Shikanji has also become very popular in Pakistan, where it is enjoyed as a refreshing beverage, especially during the hot summer months. In Pakistan, like in India, the recipe for Shikanji might vary from region to region, with some variations including mint, ginger, and black pepper to enhance its flavor and cooling effect. The drink's popularity in Pakistan can be attributed to its refreshing qualities, as well as its simplicity and the widespread availability of its ingredients. Shikanji serves as a testament to the shared culinary traditions of the Indian subcontinent and is a beloved drink across both countries, symbolizing a common cultural heritage.
