English: Description: Low-resolution reproduction of promotional photograph for the The Shadow radio series, featuring star Orson Welles, 1937 or 1938
Corporate author: Mutual Broadcasting System Source:Radio Archives
Public domain explanation
The image was created to be freely distributed for the express purpose of promoting the commercial radio series whose star it depicts. There is no evidence that copyright notice was originally filed on the image, as then required for protection.
A search of copyright renewal records for 1964 through 1966 ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]) reveals no evidence that Mutual Broadcasting System renewed copyrights to this image or any collection of images or any collection of material that might encompass this image as would have been required to maintain copyright protection, if any.
There is no evidence that CBS Corporation, the corporate heir to Mutual Broadcasting System, claims copyright on the image.
